Project: Integridade
The main innovative aspect is the accomplishment of a development Grid between the different states (Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul e Espírito Santo) allowing the matureness of the domain of this technology at the specific development scope and the formation of human resources. The basic base for this innovation is the existence of an Advanced Net (Giga) on will be made configurations, developments and result evaluations.
Project: Integridade - Description
Computational Grids has the potential of becoming powerful platforms used by the community of distributed computing, either scientific or commercial, for the execution of applications of great importance and high computational text. Its objective is to add a collection of distributed, heterogeneous and shared resources connected by a net capable to offer computational capacity for such applications. However, stay as a challenge the exploring performance of such resources, mainly because of the dynamic and instable behave of this environment. Programmers should be capable to specify applications in a high level and problems solution oriented language and be able to assume that the application access the Grid in efficient way and use the necessary resources without great efforts applied by the own programmer.
The existence of long distance and high speed nets at low cost has encouraged the development of applications that require not locally available resources, taking off advantage of geographically distributed resources. This represents an opening to new research branches that were previously limited and unexplored for economical and practical reasons.
Three distinct layers can be identified, that behave as a well integrated and unique computational system:
- Infrastructure - software and hardware components, integrated by a physical net.
- Middleware - layer offering transparency of the available resources, with tools for infrastructure management and control and Grid applications.
- Aplications - developed and optimized to take off advantage of the distributed resources and the Grid dynamic behavior.
The objective of this subproject is a development computational Grid between the participant institutions, connected by Giga Net, and develop on this environment infrastructure and middleware services that offers transparency and efficiency in use of its distributed resources. We can list services directed toward to infrastructure and also services directed toward to applications classes. On the first group, we enumerate: submission service, scheduling service, dynamic occupation monitoring service, directory service, security service, and so on. On the second group we can enumerate: data integration service, service orchestration, application's automatic transformation for Grids execution.
A development Grid implementation will allow a matureness of this technology and its application in key areas such as, for example, electronic government, bioinformatics, meteorology, particles physics, and so on. Amongst the innovative aspects is the application of these technologies on scalable form.
